An early learning center for children who are up to 5 years old has opened at the Bonita Springs YMCA with precautions that the nonprofit says will combat the spread of COVID-19.
The Suwyn Early Learning Center opened Aug. 19 with 30 enrollees. The center is meant for children as young as 6 weeks old up to 5 years old, said Executive Director Angel Cerritos.
The students should be prepared for kindergarten when they leave the facility, he said.
“We’re thrilled and excited to offer another option for families and children with early childhood education,” Cerritos said.
The 10-classroom facility can care for more than 150 children, although the center is currently at 20 percent capacity. The low numbers could be affected by coronavirus worries, the new facility’s untested nature and a late school year start, said Monica Taccone, early learning center manager.
Taccone said enrollment will rise as the rate of COVID-19 positive tests drops in Southwest Florida, she said.
